Haunted Host: 25 Years Inside the Grand Midway Hotel
A Livestream Class with Blair Murphy
at in Shadow
Blair Murphy has been the live-in host of the Grand Midway Hotel for the past 25 years—and it’s been quite an experience. Every Friday and Saturday, teams arrive to investigate the paranormal, stir up the energy, attempt to summon spirits, perform ritual magic, or simply capture footage of the hotel's surreal atmosphere. Guests often describe the Midway as a darker location. Some nights, it's so heavy even Blair gets creeped out; other times, it's light and breezy. About once a month, someone gets spooked enough to leave before sunrise—an occurrence he welcomes, as it's great for the brand.
He doesn’t advertise. People just find the place. It’s on the map.
Over the years, Blair has watched project after project grow out of the hotel—from feature films and celebrity visits to annual cultural events and even state tourism initiatives. The building has become a kind of ascension machine. People often use words like “portal” and “vortex” when they visit. Maybe, possibly. Blair has personally encountered several types of spirits at the hotel, which he’ll detail during his workshop—most notably, the funnel ghosts—but the energy here is far from singular. It’s like living in a microwave. He often says it feels like the building found him—not the other way around.
Strange as it may sound, beyond all the individual entities, the hotel itself feels like a kind of “entire-building creative poltergeist,” assisting in its own evolution.
