Coins for the Ferryman: Death Offerings and Soul Currency
A Livestream Class with Darcie Vélez
at in The Mystic Vault
Join Darci Vélez for Coins for the Ferryman, a ritual-centered workshop that delves into the symbolic and spiritual currencies offered to the dead across mythologies and cultures. From the silver placed beneath a corpse’s tongue to offerings cast into sacred rivers, we explore how the soul is provisioned for its journey beyond the veil.
We will walk with the ferrymen of the world—Charon of the Greeks, Xolotl of the Aztecs, Anubis of Kemet, and other psychopomps—examining how different traditions have prepared the dead for safe passage, and how we might reclaim these rites in modern magical practice.
This workshop includes:
- The mythic and magical significance of coin offerings and grave goods
- Creation of personalized “soul tokens” using ritual and symbolic materials
- Building and tending a collective ferry altar
- Guided meditation to the threshold of the underworld
- Space for grief, memory, and ancestral connection
Bring a small object or coin to bless and send across the waters.
Perfect for witches, death workers, and those honoring the dead, Coins for the Ferryman invites you to reflect, remember, and restore the sacred exchange between the worlds.
