Jennifer Medway is a celebrity spellcaster, energetic powerhouse, scholar, and generational spiritualist with ancestral roots in both Los Angeles and Louisiana. She descends from generations of Angelenos raised in Lynwood, CA—next to Compton—and began practicing the occult and esoteric arts at a tender age when her mother gifted her a tarot deck.

Rootwork and hoodoo run in Jennifer’s family from Louisiana. Her mother’s cousin, Maybelline, was a professional rootworker known locally as The Swamp Witch, and her maternal great-grandmother was a professional photographer and predictive Vedic astrologer who was also a devotee of Paramahansa Yogananda—and photographed him. Jennifer now carries on these family traditions as a rootworker, Sancista, Yaya Nkisi Malongo, witch, ceremonial magician, astrologer, and Reiki Master at her company, Serpentine Spiritual Arts. She is also an aborisha who has received her elekes, guerreros, ikofá, apetebí ceremony, and hand of Ifá (isefá), among other rites.

Jennifer’s clients include celebrities and award-winners—New York Times #1 bestselling novelists, Platinum musicians, actors, poets, artists, journalists, scientists, academics, and winners of RuPaul’s Drag Race—with an international clientele stretching across South America, Europe, Africa, Canada, Australia, and Thailand. She trained with top occult professionals around the globe and is a member of Ordo Templi Orientis.

She presented “Working with Santa Muerte” during the Dr. Daisy L. Machado lecture at Vanderbilt University and is currently a master’s candidate researching occult sciences and folklore. Jennifer attended Stanford, UCLA, and UC Berkeley, where she earned her BA in English. Her writing—poetry, fiction, and narrative nonfiction—has appeared in journals including Gertrude, Cornell’s Rainy Day, and Goddess and the Moon Metaphysical Journal. She is also a decorated equestrian with multiple championships, and her students have won five state championships.
